ABOUT THIS SITE

Contents

The Portal focus on three main areas:
- The social (S), economic (E), and environmental (E) determinants of public health;
- Public policy that targets these determinants;
- Assessment of the impact of public policies on health.

As the following model indicates, the portal also covers the relationships between each of these concepts:

This portal analyses the effects of policies on health and well-being, in order to better understand the relationship between public policy and health. Policies that are innovative, harmful, ineffective or health-promoting are all of interest. Health Impact Assessment is a relatively recent field, encompassing the development of conceptual and methodological tools, and of expertise. It also refers to the testing of methods that have the potential to contribute to the adoption of healthy public policies. Many researchers, groups and organizations are active in this area. The Portal pays close attention to the evolution of this field and puts to use the developments that have been made.

Health care and direct public health interventions, including vaccination programs, are not among the issues addressed by this portal.
